"Hush your mouth! Don't matter who they are, anybody sets foot in this house's yo' comp'ny, and don't you let me catch you remarkin' on their ways like you was so high and mighty! Yo' folks might be better'n the Cunninghams but it don't count for nothin' the way you're disgracin' 'em-if you can't act fit to eat at the table you can just set here and eat in the kitchen!"
                                -Calpurnia (pg.33)

"First of all, if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. Your never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view-until you climb into his skin and walk around in it."
                                 -Atticus (pg. 39)

"There are just some kind of men who-who're so busy worrying about the next world they've never learned to live in this one, and you can look down the street and see the results."
                                 -Miss Maudie (pg.60)

"The world's endin', Atticus! Please do someting-!"    -Scout (pg. 86)
"No it's not, it's snowing."   -Atticus (pg.86)

"Scout, simply by the nature of the work, every lawyer gets at least one case in his lifetime that affects him personally. This one's mine, I guess. You might hear some ugly talk about it at school, but do one things for me if you will: you just hold your head high and keep those fists down. No matter what anybody says to you, don't you let 'em get your goat. Try fighting with your head for a change . . . it's a good one, even if it does resist learning."
                                       -Atticus (pg.101)
"But before I can live with other folks I've got to live with myself. The one thing that doesn't abide by majority rule is a person's conscience."
                                       -Atticus (pg.140)

"He spends his time doin' things that wouldn't get done if nobody did 'em."
                                        -Jem (pg.155)

"That doesn't mean you hafta talk that way when you know better."
                                        -Jem (pg.167)

"Alexandra, Calpurnia's not leaving this house until she wants to. You may think otherwise, but I couldn't have got along without her all these years. She's a faithful member of this family and you'll simply have to accept things the way they are. Besides, sister, I don't want you working your head off for us-you've no reason to do that. We still need Cal as much as we ever did."
                                        -Atticus (pg.182)

               "I've just got this feeling."
                        -Jem (pg.199)

"That proves something-that a gang of wild animals can be stopped, simply because they're still human. Hmp, maybe we need a police force of
children . . . you children last night made Walter Cunningham stand in my shoes for a minute. That was enough."
                            -Atticus (pg.210)

"He's the same in the courtroom as he is on the public streets."
                            -Scout (pg.266)

"There are things you don't understand."
                           -Jem(pg.281)

"It was no accident. I was sittin' there on the porch last night, waiting. I waited and waited to see you all come down the sidewalk, and as I waited I thought, Atticus Finch won't win, he can't win, but he's the only man in these parts who can keep a jury out so long in a case like that. And i thought to myself, well, we're making a step-it's just a baby-step, but it's a step."
                           -Miss Maudie (pg.289)

"You couldn't, but they could and did. The older you grow the more of it you'll see. The one place where a man ought to get a square deal is in a courtroom, be he any color of the rainbow, but people have a way of carrying their resentments right into a jury box. As you grow older, you'll see white men cheat black men every day of your life, but let me tell you something and don't you forget it-whatever a white man does that to a black man, no matter who he is, how rich he is, or how fine a famliy he comes from, that white man is trash."
                           -Atticus (pg.295)
Reflections

I like this quote because it shows that every person has their own background. Whether they're poor or rich, it doesn't change who they are as a person. Just because someone has high social/economical status doesn't make them have good characteristics. This quote teaches a valuable lesson to not judge a book by its cover!

This quote helps me in life when I want to make preconceived notions about a person. It makes me stop and think of what the other person must be going through. With the help of this quote, I try to think about the other person's situation before I judge them.

I try to take this quote into account everyday. Sometimes I am so worried about what will happen in the future I forget to live in the present. Many opportunities can pass by if I am worried all the time. This quote makes me stop and enjoy the life I am living right now!

This quote is not only funny, but relateable to my life. Many times I think a situation is a lot worse than it truly is. If I stand back and look at the big picture I will see the situation is only bad in my mind. The mind can play powerful tricks!

This quote is important to live by. Many people get discriminated against, for reasons beyond their control. Students will pick on other students for who their parents are, even though a child cannot control what their parents do. It is important to stand strong and proud and use your words to fight. I have been offended before by sexist comments. I remembered to fight peacefully and not physically.

I like how this quote expresses how you have to know who you are inside. If you know who you are and what you believe, then life will be easier. Many people are too caught up in what other think of them. If you are worried about public perception then you will never discover who you truly are . . . which is all that really matters!
This quote reminds me that there are people who have the "dirty jobs", the jobs nobody else wants to do. It is easy to forget about those people and push them aside. This quote reminds me to appreciate the people who have the "dirty jobs". It is important to remember that everybody's job is important no matter what it may be.
This quote definitely relates to my life. I do things I know I shouldn't do. This quote reminds me to simply do the right thing, no matter how badly I want to do the opposite.

This quote shows the importance of close family friends. Just because a person is not biologically realted to you doesn't mean they can't be family. I personally have close friends in my life that are my family. Family is key to survival, whether they're realted to you or not.

This quote reminds me of when I had to go with my intuition on many occasions. In life, when you don't know which path to take, you simply have to listen to your heart. Sometimes the only way to live life to the fullest is to take a risk by going with your gut instinct.

This quote shows that every person makes an impact in other peoples' lives. The quote reminds me to think before I act. One wrong move can mean I am effecting not only myself, but the people around me in a negative way.

This quote reminds me that I shouldn't act a certain way according to the situation I'm in. I should simply be myself, instead of pretending to be a person that I'm not. Nobody likes a two faced person.

This quote reminds me of when a was a little girl. I would always get frustrated when adults would tell me I would understand when I got older. I told them the reason I didn't understand was becuase they didn't even take the chance to explain it to me!

This quote reminds me that goals are important to have. Every step to reach that goal is important, no matter how small it is. Sometimes I have to take baby steps to reach my goal. In the end, I will be happy that I had taken baby-steps. Baby-steps are better than no steps at all!

I love this quote! It reminds me that no matter what a person appears to be on the outside, the inside is the only thing that matters. If a person is rich, but treats people badly, it doesn't make that person any better than someone who's poor. I try to remember the meaning of this powerful quote when meeting new friends.
